My Dear Florrie,
By the time you get this you have got the paper with the sad news of Uncle Willie’s death. It was a dreadful accident.
It was a motorcyclist come up behind him, where he and a friend were walking up a country road with not much traffic only a few children dotted over the road who had come out of Sunday school. The cyclist came buzzing along at 30 miles an hour and just caught him on the left side lifted him off his feet and flung him down again breaking his leg up at the hip and other very serious injuries. He was going on as we thought nicely where suddenly he had an attack of the rigors about 4:30 pm on Saturday 27th had another at 12:00 pm, he lived until 11:40. On Sunday morning just three weeks from he got hit he passed away very peacefully and happy. I sang a few little choruses to him repeated the hymn, How Sweet the name of Jesus sounds in a believer’s ear. And when I came to the verse dear, have the Rock on which I stand Rock the Rock three times he repeated it and said that’s my hope, oh the only comfort I have to know he was ready to go. No one can understand how I miss him he was so much to me and so much with me in the home he helped with all the meals served there and cleared the tables tidied up after every meal and often if late at night helped me to wash up he was so kind and thoughtful. I feel I can’t go on without him and save thinking of giving up the house and my sister Minnie wants me to go and live with her for the rest of my days. I do trust the Lord will direct me to do the right thing. I’m just in his hands. Will let you know next letter what I will be guided to do. Excuse this short letter as I’ve had so many to reply to.
Love to all your dear ones and a big share to yourself, your affectionate Auntie Jeannie
