My own darling wee Florrie,
It was a great joy to me to receive your long looked for letter. The Christmas card came alright just in time for xmas but no letter. Well I guess the others have been lost with lots of others isn’t terrible to think of so much loss of life and property but still we must not forget that God rules and overrules and is working out his own place as year succeeds to year in his good time will bring peace and victory.
Now I must tell you we had a very sad xmas your Uncle John passed away on xmas eve he had been in failing health for nearly two years. I think I told you that senile decay had set in and his nerves were very bad he was so restless at night. In the summer he would go for his little walks into the park which is just across the road of course in winter he was closed in but we noticed his walks growing shorter at last he wasn’t able to come down stairs so his last walk was round the couch and felt tired where he got round.
Eamon Taylor had arranged to come &celebrate communion on the Friday but he wasn’t able to partake so in the afternoon he fell asleep and passed out. On Sunday eve 5:30 very peacefully and calming. Just died as he lived we were all round his bed and watched him passing without a struggle into the presence of the King. We all miss his dear face but wouldn’t wish him back. You speak of the celebration of youth in the First Christian church well I don’t quite understand this movement and would like you to explain a little more fully when you write how is it governed is by assembly or synod or presbytery and is celebrating communion how is done usually the ministers or elders administer others just pars it would wow I’m sure you think me very curious and inquisitive but I’m very pleased to hear of the youth being looked after and gathered in.
Now as for the play I’m afraid I can’t agree with you there as I feel dying of Jesus was too awful to be enacted or brought down to the same level as any other play it certainly does appeal to sentiment but not to the consciousness but if your dear boys do take their part for Gods glory then certainly it will be a success. We are all very pleased to hear your boys are growing up such wise boys and are budding into manhood now and are at the crossroads of life but they have chosen to walk the narrow path which leads to life eternal.
It must be a great comfort and joy to you to have two such lovely boys I only wish you could attend (?) family group we would just love to see what you all look like now. However if you send us on the hog killing demonstration we will be satisfied for the time being but don’t forget we will still expect the group.
I’m sorry to hear you have lost the British market for your tobacco for there is plenty of it used in this county. So long as you can raise plenty of mutton well it will put a bowl in us. It is real good stuff if it’s properly thawed.
Very sorry to hear your fruit crop has been such a failure I think it has been a very trying winter all over the world and the flu every place we all had a touch of it.
Very surprised to hear Florida had such severe season isn’t it usually very warm there winter and summer, there loss will be somewhat appalling
Poor Stanley hasn’t had much happiness in his married life how does he keep going isn’t the hospital expensive he must have a good job to keep going. I’m very pleased that Eva is so comfortably off. So glad to hear your mothers cold is better.
I think it would be a pity if Roosevelt would not be returned again for another term we all think he is a great man and if he had his way would be a great leader and great Christian as well but there is still strong opposition in every community where Christianity is concerned and has always been here right down the ages.
Well now for a little domestic news well such. Dad was talking our circle is shrinking mother has a bad throat still. Jean is suffering from a cold slight and I am fairly well but suffering to little heart attacks.
Etta is now in your home since dad passed away she was very good she came here and stayed night and day fussing over dad as he was so troublesome at night and one couldn’t do it so she and Jean took it useful about she only went home for a couple days about every month but comes occasionally to see us and spend a few days with us.
Eva is still in England and has two boys her oldest boy is over 17 and she is very anxious about him he is in a good job now only this last three weeks here to school all the time he is a clever boy won his way through and now I must dry up
I’m in my 79th year so you won’t hear from me much longer. Wishing you and all the family Gods best to each one.
Your loving and affectionate Auntie Jeannie
